British author Michael Stuart Evans is the creator of The Nine Fold Gate series and The Mages of Carcamesh series.
Michael has a life long love of stories and story telling and is passionate about both fantasy and science fiction, particularly the works of Tolkien, Iain M Banks, Robert Jordan and George RR Martin. As a youth he discovered Marvel and fell in love with all things X Men.
He was brought up on 70’s sci-fi shows from Star Trek to Space 1999, but his favorite was, and still is, the British TV show Doctor Who.
He has always written. As a child he and a friend wrote adventure stories set in their own universe, with all the best bits of their favourite TV shows, books and comics thrown in. Of course, they cast themselves in the role of heroes. For years they traveled the universe, sometimes fighting their own aliens, sometimes fighting the Daleks or visiting ancient Barsoom.
There was even one story where the Swedish pop group ABBA were killed and replaced with ageless androids! A glimpse of the future, perhaps.
But all of that came to an end when the necessity for earning a living reared its ugly head. Michael started in retail, selling menswear before changing careers to eventually become a training manager for a major utility.
Writing is a time consuming activity, and though he continued to write, he found it difficult to sustain. He did finish one book, The White Crow, which he describes as Harry Potter with aliens and space ships. (The White Crow is on the back burner and may well come to light one day if he ever gets time to revise it.)
It wasn’t until he took early retirement in 2019 that he was able to dedicate the time and energy to writing and The Nine Fold Gate was born. The first three books of the series are currently available. Book four of The Nine Fold Gate tentatively titled The Forge of Gilliath, is scheduled for publication in late 2023.
He has also started a second series, The Mages of Carcamesh, and is in the early stages of writing book two.
Michael lives in the UK with his partner Alan, and their two cats, Marley & Dexter. They live not far from the ancient town of Warwick.
