The Scattered King
The Nine Fold Gate Book 1
The ninth is awake and has broken the gate,
A shadow of anger, a nightmare of hate.
The world will end once its errand is done,
To gather the nine and re-forge the one.
Gilliath, The Maker, has been betrayed by his fellow gods, his soul carved into nine fragments and scattered across the world. The most potent part of his soul has been sent through the Nine Fold Gate to the realm of death, and all to prevent his ever returning to unmake the world he created.
But now the Ninefold Gate is broken, and Gilliath has returned and is seeking the scattered parts of his soul. And the terrified gods who betrayed him.
Brennus, a retired soldier turned innkeeper, is unwillingly recruited by the Carrion Queen, the Goddess of Death herself, to find Gilliath and prevent his resurrection. A task made all the more perilous because Gilliath can take possession of anyone. Brennus and his friends find themselves in a desperate fight for survival, and some will fall.
Snee, former captain of the night guard of T’eag , finds her past returns to haunt her through the words of a false prophet who knows far too much about her deepest secrets. She must fight to save not only herself but her oldest friends from the vengeance of a monster she thought she had escaped long ago. And though she does not know it, one of those friends holds the secret to the location of all of the scattered parts of Gilliath’s soul.
Iordanis, elf assassin to Bera, Goddess of the Wild, is sent into the human world to finish a task she failed years earlier. She finds herself fighting alongside people she has considered enemies for all her life against demons from the deepest reaches of the earth.
Though at first their trials seem isolated, it soon becomes clear that their lives and the dangers they face are just the first tremors of a cataclysmic battle for the survival of their world.
Set in a vast and dynamic world of gods and magic, this epic fantasy is perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones.
Characters
Baelon
Baelon has spent his life being kicked out of towns and villages like he’s a bad smell…but then he generally smells damp and musty and abandoned so it’s hardly unexpected.
And then one day in the northern town of T’eag, whilst standing on an upturned bucket on the corner where Honey Street meets The Rag Market, words just flood into his brain. Words he didn’t think. He meets two people who will change his life.
What follows is a nightmare.
Snee
Twenty years ago, Snee was the Night Commander of the Watch to the King of T’eag.
Until, that is, one fateful night when the Queen gave birth to her first born child. Even as the queen lay screaming in her bed, Snee and her friend Twizzle hunted a thief through the streets of T’eag and through the teeth of a terrible blizzard.
What they found in the cold changed them utterly and shattered their lives.
Wolfram
Wolfram was born to Vulfmar, brother to King Hurm and Lord of the dwarven house of Raft. On Vulfmar’s death, Wolfram was recalled to Raft to take his fathers place.
But Wolfram had left the north years earlier, disgusted with the treachery and duplicity of the dwarven court. No coward, he desired enemies he could fight head on, rather than ones whose chosen weapons were poison, lies and deceit.
But the lordship of the house of Raft is still vacant, and King Hurm is not one to leave a seat of power un-filled.
